I too can confirm this. I've the same machine (XPS l702x aka XPS 17),
display (hd 3D), and graphics card (GT 555m). Same results on each of
the above suggested tests. All indications (OSD, /proc values, g-p-m
output) are that the brightness is changing, but the actual screen does
not change.

Nope, it does not seem so.
As for the labelled partitions (#442130): [cite]a workaround is to specify the
partitions by /dev/sdXXX[/cite];
and here with cifs mounts, the only way to get the duplicates off is not to
specify them at all.
BTW. There is a "step up" in Natty: one record in fstab (sa
Skype icon comes after kill the skype process and restart it, in my
natty x64. But postpone start (sleep a few seconds before launch skype)
doesn't work for me.
Seems lots of people using skype, hope fix this issue soon, though now
its MS skype.

Launchpad user gazel seems to have mistaken the Ubuntu project page on
Launchpad for Ubuntu itself.
S/He seems to have hit a permission error on LP and simply says something in

I have similar problem after upgrade to 11.04. Only wallpaper is visible
nothing more. I cannot even run ALT+F2. When I tried to run Ubuntu-
