I'm on natty too, with the latest updates and the problem still exists.
It happens even when I choose 'Ubuntu Classic' or 'Ubuntu (Safe Mode)'
on login (see screenshot in attachment). Usually, at first the right
dark theme is shown but after a few seconds it falls back to the ugly

works, but is then killed.
It really may be that gnome-settings-daemon somehow is still hanging after

I have this problem also, but only for ~3 days. Previously everything was
working. The FTP server was not changed in any way, so I guess, there was an
gvfs update?
Ubuntu 10.04, gvfs 1.6.1-ubuntu1build1, nautilus 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1.1
Copying in terminal gives this:

This bug is still present in chromium-browser. (To be sure, I tested
again with chromium-browser 10.0.648.204~r79063-0ubuntu2 and xdg-utils
1.1.0~rc1-2ubuntu2.)
