My case i a bit different. I also have always had p to open Pidgin.
Recently I added Pidgin PPA to the repositories and the shortcut stopped
working.
If I assign a different shortcut like o then it works and Pidgin opens,
if I assign a different program to p it also works!
This is very strange.
I have a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop and have the same issue. Pressing the
sleep button (Fn+F1) hibernates rather than sleeps. I am running a
freshly installed 10.10.

The worrying thing is that it doesn't lock the screen immediately..
there is a couple of seconds where a user could close a window or launch
an application.. perhaps even a script from an automounted drive.. if
the system is under a lot of load then the delay is even longer.

So this appears to be an Ubuntu-specific issue, not appearing on other
distros. Surely that implies that Ubuntu are modifying something that
other people are not? For example, the patch from comment #6 ? In which
case there's nothing that upstream can do, and it really has to be

To test further, I took the attached XML file from this report and
replaced an XML file I created by adding a comment through gthumb.
gthumb segfaulted again.

I've found a way on how to get around this bug.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10.
1. Log into a ftp-server in Nautilus.
2. Drag a folder on the ftp-server to the top (or bottom panel).
3. Right click on the newly created shortcut and choose "Preferences".
4. Change the "place" from "ftp://example.org/folder

I have just come across this problem again with another machine (my
previous post #107 was concerning a Compaq Presario A900 (bios f.33) )
This time it is with an HP Pavilion dv8000.
