My case i a bit different. I also have always had <Super>p to open Pidgin. Recently I added Pidgin PPA to the repositories and the shortcut stopped working. If I assign a different shortcut like <Super>o then it works and Pidgin opens, if I assign a different program to <Super>p it also works! This is very strange.
