Sorry I have not read all the 120 messages, but one member of ubuntu-fr
reported that for him the bug stopped since he desactivated the WIFI in the
BIOS. (no bug any more in 40 reboots)

I've struggled to get a backtrace as gdb hangs when using it against a
running gnome-settings-daemon PID (not even responding to Ctrl+C), but
when killing all running gnome-settings-daemon processes and then
starting gdb with a new gnome-settings-daemon process, I got the

fyi, I had the same hanging-while-formatting issue with 2.30.1.2-2ubuntu1~ppa2
as well;
disabling all plugins didn't help, but curiously disabling 'Show the photograph
of sender in the message preview' in MailPreferences->Headers did...

Now the required signal is available from ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ppa (please
not that the real patch is on GNOME Bugzilla, the one attached to this
bug report is obsolete) libappindicator needs to be adapted to actually
use the 'chield-added' signal.
