My Synaptic doesn't list -dbg versions of libusb (I have both
libusb-0.1-4 and libusb-1.0-0 installed, no -dbg packages for either),

The above mentioned workaround worked for me:
1) remove all layouts except for US Dvorak
2) add back whatever you want

changes between those version are a keyboard layout setting one and a
gdmsetup one, nothing should be doing a difference on the login screen

As a sidenote, I know all reporters feel their bug should be the
priority of the entire world. That being said, I do believe having this
bug as "low priority" is a mistake.
Assume you (or someone else) confirms this bug exists, this essentially
means Ubuntu LTS will be unsable in ANY corporate or

I installed Mplayer and VLC, and none has the flickering that is seen in

duplicate of bug #534451, so is being marked as such. Please loo
unsatisfactory workaround to do the whole thing manually.
NOTE: assumes that your external LUKS encrypted drive is mounted as
/dev/sdb1 and the device name in /dev/mapper is wdcrypt. Change these
for your own situation.
