For Dibya Sanyal...this is not a fix for the bug, just a work around so
you don't have to hard reboot.
If you hold down the alt and scroll lock (sysreq) keys and while holding
them down, press k, you should restart x without having to reboot.
This can also be set back to the old standard of ctrl

I'm suspecting something is done the wrong way here. Normally, in GTK
menus, icons are put in the "empty space"/gutter on the left of the
text. Notice that even though you have icons on some of those menu
items, there is still blank space on their left? Well that's where the
icon was supposed to go

meant to say the Print Screen (sysreq) key, NOT the Scroll Lock key.

I tried looking at the patch. The only difference in the text files is
the name of the themes, so I expect the difference to be in the png
files. Unfortunately they are not included in the patch.

When I use the keyboard to adjust brightness, that works, but is
presumable handled by the machine itself/BIOS. However, at each

I see 'Broadcast' and 'Skype' (I made my own .desktop for this). That is
it. If I have evolution running, I see the usual mail boxes, "Contacts"
and "Compose new message", but still no Evolution icon.

Hi again,
I've sent a patch to metacity upstream that was meant to deal with this
issue, by flipping the title alignment in metacity for themes that align
to the left.
If you want to try it, you can now also try it from my ppa on launchpad.

This issue has nothing to do with the gnome-panel not appearing last
night. This is different. The menu entries in system > preferences >
main menu >system tools is still empty. menu > system tools is still
empty. Control Center is still not present in the menus and nVidia

I can confirm as well that I am seeing the same problem. 2 out of three
of my gvfs share will mount though the 3rd won't. All three cause 100%
cpu usage.
