hi again,
after playing with ubuntu-ja-setup-helper (which is quite dangerous by the way,
it uninstalled me thunderbird and other things), I managed to read the
documents with Evince. By looking in my Synaptics history, I uninstalled the
packages one by one, and it seems that the package "popple
happened to me just now, using ubuntu 9.10. Just updated to kernel
2.6.31-19-generic... Not sure if that is why it happened, but all the
notes are gone. Is there a way to recover them? I had some pretty
important info on them... Thx!

This was just discussed in #ubuntu-devel. That was the plan:
* Drop the gconfery from apt's daily cron job
* Move the gconfery to apt's postinst, to set the proxy during upgrade
to lucid, once. This means that we can entirely drop all hacks from
lucid+1 on.
