I can't reproduce your solution: - I installed "ttf-umefont", "ttf-konatsu" and "ttf-mona" (that installed "xutils" by dependancy also) from the Universe repository. -> unable to read the documents with Evince - then I reloaded the fonts (sudo fc-cache -f -v) -> unable to read the documents with Evince - then I restarted my session -> unable to read the documents with Evince - then I added the Japanese team repositories (http://archive.ubuntulinux.jp/ubuntu karmic main , and http://archive.ubuntulinux.jp/ubuntu-ja karmic-non-free ), and updated my package list -> no different version of the above fonts packages
So finally I am still unable to read the documents with Evince.
