I have been unable to reproduce your symptoms on my machine running
9.10. I had no problems running XVID encoded movies using VLC, Mplayer
and Totem, as well as running them from the Firefox browser. Given this,
the next step is to find out a little more about your system and exactly

I did two big upgrade within one month 8.10 -> 9.04 -> 9.10
I must say 8.10 -> 9.04 was a very good upgrade. Then because cvs pserver
problem in 9.04,
I did 9.04 -> 9.10, hoping that will make cvs pserver work. But it remains
bad and I got the mount problem.

The same system I mentioned before has been updated to Karmic Kuala 9.10.

I had the same problem with KK x64, I was troubleshooting some other
problem and deleted /tmp ... after a reboot i could not login at all
regardless of user except for root chmod 775 /tmp fixed it.

I figured out what is going on. My Templates folder is on removable
media which fstab mounts automatically. When I boot and the media is
removed, xdg-user-dirs-update runs and is moving the path from
~/Templates to ~ when it sees that the folder is missing. To fix the
problem, I had to manually

I have this issue on a fresh stable karmic install on my 2 machines. I'm
pretty sure I've not changed the default french keyboard layout during
the installation.

i too am having this problem on my acer travelmate 2303wlmi Intel
celeron 40gb Toshiba drive.
every time i boot up palimpsest informs me that i have bad sectors on
disk, the disk is failing and needs to be replaced but it still passes!
never had this under 9.04 but got it on my first boot of 9.10

I do have a dual screen config, but accessibility options are not
enabled anywhere.
As a work around, I just deleted everything under ~/.gconf/apps/panel/,
then restarder gconf2-d. That "solved" the problem by restoring the
panel to the pristine default condition. Accidentaly, this also solved
