I have been unable to reproduce your symptoms on my machine running 9.10. I had no problems running XVID encoded movies using VLC, Mplayer and Totem, as well as running them from the Firefox browser. Given this, the next step is to find out a little more about your system and exactly how you upgraded it from 9.04 to 9.10.
Could you please run the following command and report the results: sudo find / -name libxvidcore* Also, could you please describe, in as much detail as possible, the exact series of steps you took when you upgraded your system from 9.04 to 9.10.
