Digital surround output is also missing for me on a Realtek ALC889A
chipset. I only have "Digital Stereo Duplex (IEC958)" and various
combinations of both output and input, while the analogue options
include 4, 4.1, 5, and 5.1 surround. So, I guess it's not be detected

I agree that fixing pulseaudio is a constructive course of action.
But: I disagree with "no bug - no problem" policy. In this case closed bug does
not mean that problem isn't there!
And second: I am fully agree with Dmitry: pulseaudio is just bells and whistles
that should be *optional*! Jaunty w
Also when disconnect the power cable, the manager still says "Battery fully
charged".
Even after half an hour.

I forgot to say that: for my users I did check permissions for audio using the
"Users and Groups" manager.
So I don't understant why "sudo alsa force-reload" gets the following output:

I have tried adjusting the sound settings for the system. Even after
restart all the sound defaults to full blast. I have to go back and
reset the sound almost all the way down in any application and for the
system.

Sorry, Milan, but unfortunately your patch doesn't solve the problem.
Aside from that, your patch seems to touch the change_user subroutine,
instead of del_user, which should have more sense...
