I confirm that this is evince's fault. It currently hardly manages to

Yes, it is. What happened was:
* gdm previously misdetected the system layout, using "us" instead of "us
dvorak"
* gdm exported GDM_KEYBOARD_LAYOUT=us
* g-s-d saw this, noticed that you didn't yet have gconfified l

Sebastien : adding a space with the mouse is not trivial
You have to open a document with spaces in it, then use right-click to copy &
paste the space each time you want to add another word separated with a space
to a sentence.
