Same problem here - I have had this issue over the last few days on

does not show up in the context menu for these files, and if you try to
make it work through "Open with Other Application", it does nothing, as
far as I can tell.

So does this mean that nothing will be done at all?
Besides, I can think of cases beyond Thumbs.db, where it would be nice
to have a way of hiding files. Pesky .pyc files are a good example.
Nautilus already does its own hiding of files, such as files ending with
~, so why is this a big problem?
gvfs could add custom layer to hide files using the "standard" .hidden
file in each directory.

The backends have to support Upstart so that services-admin can be
shipped again (see bug 433701). Maybe services-admin should be modified
too so that it fits better in to Upstart's design (e.g. no runlevels but
dependencies), though
Scott, could you explain what we should change in order to fully support
Upstart? Do you think we could be Upstart-compatible with minimal
changes for Karmic (e.g. just changing a few locations/commands)? Are
there deeper changes that could be nice to do in the long term?

I'm just wondering (very politely) if there has been any progress on

It is still occuring under Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Alpha 6 and Nautilus
1:2.28.0-0ubuntu2. Interestingly when run as root/super user, the drive
order is "correct".

What exactly is this automatic way? I don't get caches after
reinstalling the *-icon-theme packages.There are still no caches
installed by default and the postinst-scripts still run update-icon-
caches which does not create new caches as Sergey pointed out. Maybe its
a bug in dh_icons?
