Sebastien - Thank you for following that up.
I did a lot of research yesterday and I think it may not necessarily be a G-C-C
bug, it could also be an issue with package libcanberra as similar erratic
system sound behaviour was reported in 8.04 and seemingly fixed with a later
release of libcanb

This certainly does seem to be related to brasero. If I downgrade to the
Jaunty versions of both brasero and libbrasero-media0 that seems to
solve the "nautilus as root" problem (both from cli and using the gui
'nautilus-gksu').
I must say however that it's not even a decent work-around because yo

Hey guys.
I've managed to get the stickynotes applet icon added to the bar,
however it fails to add new notes. The way I've managed to add it was by
removing the previously created $HOME/.gnome2/stickynotes_applet file.
After it has been removed, I added the applet and the icon was shown
there and

Well Pedro, consider that it's not mandatory that "on this computer"
account is the default one. So you can create for many reasons other
accounts and you only want to display the default. For some reasons "on
this computer" accounts cannot be renamed (bug #399167) and hidden.

Cool! This problem must have appeared in Karmic, since in previous
releases the backends were started at boot time before they were
actually needed (which is wrong BTW). But I really don't see how it
could affect some users and not all of them. And still I don't have seen
other reports about that.
