over "launchpad" buttons (with slashes and less spaces between). Also
with home in the side panel, and with functional stop button. If it is
to be used to stop loading thumbnails (in folders with a lot of pictures
it is a pain)
Oh! another idea: two-lined "arrows" in "launchpad" buttons could be
replaced with one-lined "slashes". That would be more consistent.

gconfd leads to idling at 100% and stopping it reduces activity to about
12%. Killing gconfd-2 does not help, it is respawned immediately.

from the information you submitted it is not obvious, which version of
Ubuntu and more precisely which version of libpoppler you used.
>From the Ghostscript version 8.62 I guess it is 8.10 (Intrepid).
eog uses libpoppler which suffered from this now fixed bug.

I noticed that, with scaling switched ON and in full-screen mode, the
