I'm using Ubuntu Jaunty and have the same problem for as far as i remember
using gnome :( (from dapper i think).
My settings is the two pannels at the top.
Until Jaunty it was not so problematic as i could drag and drop one

I just noticed this on ubuntu 64bit / jaunty. It seems to be hitting
the integer limit (about 2gig) and then going to zero. If your burn is
big enough (over 4.2 gig) the progress bar resumes again from the start
- and then the burn finishes.

Still a problem in Jaunty. I have this sound totally disabled in
normal installations because it's so annoying and loud, but when using a
LiveCD I have no choice but to cover the laptop with a pillow every time
I reboot (which can happen a lot when debugging a boot issue.) It's
very frustrating

Just now, battery notification popped up with a beep, and it told me the
battery was running low. I hadn't realized that the power cord had
fallen out. I reached for it and plugged it in within 5 seconds.
The screen lit up brighter, as it does when plugged in, the icon changed
to charging icon,
I tried to repro this bug in 32-bit 9.04 (rhythmbox 0.12.0-0ubuntu4).
Unfortunately, RB wouldn't freeze. /However/, I get different behavior
that still seems to implicate cross-fading.
With cross-fading enabled:

I'm having the same issue but have found a repeatable case. Everything
loads fine on session start. The desktop disappears when I cut & paste
from a local filesystem to a SFTP share in nautilus.
I can work-around the problem by copy/pasting instead of cut/pasting.

The attached debdiff is against the latest debian packge, 2.12.0-3.
This fixes the conflict with zenity by no longer installing a symlink in
/usr/bin/gdialog, and patching gate to call gdialog2 directly.
