Dim on idle/battery works fine now (on intrepid), only when using the
brightness keys the events are sometimes repeated more than once (I understand
this is already known?). I also do not experience slowdowns anymore. For me

I'm not sure the name of the file is the culprint. I asked two friends
winth different laptops to send me the contents of ~/.gnome2/gnome-
power-manager, both of them are free of this bug, one has lots of files
in this directory while the other one has four. There seems to be some
problems in the n
And now the reason for the problem: there was no audio device. I ran
Ubuntustudio in VirtualBox and had not activated any audio output device
(or rather only the null audio driver). After switching to ALSA
everything works fine.
Anyway this should probably better lead not to a stalled program.

it may be a little different:
display is not dimmed (backlit intensity not changed) nor with external power,
or when on battery.
additional info:
Backlit intensity is controllable via hotkeys, but the animated bar has
different amount of steps than the elect

I'm still using Hardy (Network Manager issues in Intrepid make it
unusable), and it's still too early for me to test 9.04.

In Ubuntu 8.10, gthumb can't move to trash the pictures that are not on
the /home partition. The error message is (translated from french)
"Unable to send picture to trash, not the same filesystem". The pictures
can be moved to trash using nautilus
