Thank you very much for looking into this!
I was able to solve the problem by going into my computer's BIOS and
changing some IRQ's around. I believe the problem was caused by an interrupt
conflict between the network card and video card.
Video playback works great now [for me] in Int
Standard intrepid repositories seems to be missing all the packages in guestion.

I am using Intrepid and I was looking for configuration to turn off
PC speaker audible bell but I couldn't find it. After some googling

I am facing the same issue in Ubuntu Inrepid. I have a Volume mute, up
and down keys in my keyboard, in addition to having a Fn+Esc=Mute,
Fn+F2=Vol Up and Fn+F1=Vol Down key combination as well.

I ran tomboy --debug &> tomboy.txt and tomboy.txt quickly filled up (after a
few minutes it was over 20MB). Only the first 15 lines contained unique
information; The last line here was repeated throughout the whole file.

Also, for what it's worth: This seems to only happen when I'm actively
interacting with the computer. I leave my sessions running overnight

Right, the anacron message occurs as a consequence of you connecting
your AC adapter. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the status
of your battery and AC adapter from that data.
Do you get any notifications from gnome-power-manager when your battery
gets low and before the laptop shuts

I can not install Ubuntu 8.10. Aftar the language choice, I get 'OUT OF RANGE'
message. At present I have no problem with Ubuntu 8.04. This happens when
trying to install from a Downloaded CD.

Good to hear this is being looked at, I thought I was the only one.
Something not mentioned that I experienced is that when pressing the
Fn+up my brightness would go up AND my volume would go down at the same
time.

For now I'm closing the gnome-power-manager task as this has been
confirmed to be a kernel bug.
It isn't, and hasn't been. This is a bug with Dell portables. The
kernel patch is a hack to fix up the buggy crap.
