Is your system fully updated? From the stacktrace, I suspect this is a
bug in glib2.0 and not gthumb.
Please try also to create a new user account and see if the issue
remains.
Maybe you can get a further indication of what goes wrong if you install
libglib2.0-0-dbgsym and gthumb-dbgsym, and the
reproduced the bug.
i guess there is some problem with the pdf file also. normally all my other pdf
files are opening except the one mentioned above. it crashes the evince on my
ubuntu system. (hardy). acroread didn't crash but displayed a blank page.

I also see the same issue for the gnome-system-monitor.
This issue also only appears when the Murrine theme engine is used.
Perhaps there is some RGBA support activated? Temporary workaround is to
just use Human-Clearlook as theme.

To make sure it is not a problem with old settings, I also reproduced it with
an Alpha6 live-cd:
- boot Alpha 6 live-cd
- enable universe repository
- install compizconfig-settings-manager
- in ccsm, disable "desktop wall", enable "desk

I realise this is an old bug entry, however I recently noticed a similar
issue with hardy install. There appears to be no problems with setting
the number of desktops, rather the workspace name selection appears
missing.

regarding bluez-utils since they share the same init scripts but bluez-

F-spot in hardy crashed for me, too. The problem in my case was that I
entered incorrect login information. A work-around is to remove the
offending entry in your gnome-keyring, which can be easily done through
Applications / Preferences / Passwords / Passwords.

I didn't have the chance to test on intrepid, but on ubuntu 8.04 and
gnome-utils 2.24.0 I do not confirm this bug. Baobab is correctly saving
snapshot images. Maybe the bug is not related to this package?
