I'm getting the same kind of crash on 8.04 @ ASUS A6km laptop.
After unplugging AC, even though a popup informs me that AC power has
been unplugged, the battery status applet keeps displaying AC power.

I get this bug as well, when I view a certain folder with a certain avi
file in it. Whilst in the folder in nautilus, memory usage increases
MASSIVELY and nautilus has to be quit before the machine starts
swapping, which causes a hard lockup.

Actually here's a better question: will this patch allow *suspend* (not
just screen blanking) when the laptop lid closes? I saw in another bug
that several apps are getting dbus calls added for various reasons to
prevent suspend.
This is a *really* bad idea.. it damages laptops! If the user has

On my Gutsy system the directory gnome-sudoku was simply missing. So I created
it.
Then it complained that the file generated_puzzles was missing. So I created
that too.
Finally (after getting an EOF error) it seemed to go ahead, but now when it

I agree with you in principal actually, but I think the problem has been
poorly-defined. We need a separate definition: call it "active" power
management and "passive" power management.
In active PM, the user has taken an action to cause it to happen, i.e.

preference (in g-p-m) should correspond with what actually happens by
default. Second, things should be able to override g-p-m (such as the
rhythmbox plugin) but these behaviors should be non-default.

Why would someone want this?
Because it's annoying to have to hit shift-x every time i close the
image viewer and open into another folder. Because it's a simple feature
that SHOULD be part of any image management program.
