UPDATE: Sorry to say, after this saturdays updates (03/08/2008) this bug
has resurfaced itself. When the laptop powered on after all the updates
were complete, this horrible error once again showed its ugly teeth.

By changing the kernel's timer configuration I've been able to work
around the problem. I don't remember exactly the changes. If there's

This appears to be not an upstream issue because of the libjpeg they
ship in the mozilla source. Unfortunately, they carry quite a few
ancient patches that are not reasonably documented.
If we cannot find a feasible cherry-pick for this bug we should consider
to just drop the system-jpeg configure
