I had a similar problem after an Alpha 5 update yesterday. After
the update, I had an error message for gnome-applets keyboard.
The update had a problem with the keyboard indicator I use in
my panel. In addition to the error message, the update icon
mentioned that there were dependency problems

When i'm login with username and password, ubuntu crashes. I get a message that
there can not be written a file. Either i don't have enough diskspace or my
personal map can not be written to. It is something more with GDM, but i can
not rememb

Sometimes shares-admin doesnt synchronise with smb.conf
When it does, you notice as if its reloading or something (shows some process
being done).
I tried this.
First unlock. add a new smb share. This should work
