I have switched to KDE from Gnome because Gnome was taking too long to
start up, and this did fix the problem for me. So I think it is a
problem related to Gnome. In either case Compiz didn't make a

Quick update: I just noticed that Nautilus eats the memory when I open
directories and folders. The more folders/files I see, the more memory
it will use. However it will not revert back when I close everything.

Since the gnome-session starts gnome processes, how can it not be
related to gnome?
I have used Arch Linux with the 2.6.22 kernel and it logged in in 20
seconds, about 10 seconds less than edgy and even less than gutsy.
Removing compiz in ubuntu does not make a difference.

I have a similar problem. Ever since I started using compiz, totem gets the
apect ratio wrong. Totem-gstreamer, totem-xine, all get the aspect ratio
inverted (3:4 instead of 4:3).

This is a very ODD and IRRITATING bug because I can't understand base
principles of what happens.
In general it's impossible to print emails from evolution to HP 1200 LaserJet

In Gutsy, I don't have the "Hibernate" option in the gdm menu any
longer. And Suspend does nothing*. Both work fine once I am logged in.
Both are enabled in /etc/default/acpi-support.

When the picture_opacity value from the gnome background image is set to 200
the background image disappears and never comes back until the config files are
removed.
