OK, just FYI:
This only happens on one box - 2 others (laptop, desktop) run fine with
no errors.
If I uninstall xsane, then the Gimp starts just fine. On *this* box it
always hangs. When I do a ps I see this:

The settings will not make the bug fixed much faster, there is ten of
thousand of bugs open and somebody getting the issue should work on this

I cannot confirm this bug on latest Ubuntu Gutsy release. Gdm doesn't
accept the wrong passwords, I tested 10 differents passwords with non-
ascii characters. The password I used for the accound was pippoo,
because pippo is a too short password, it is not accepted.

The F-spot suffers in normal mode too .
After few minutes, like screensaver time, it freeeze in bw screen with colour
dialogue interfaces.
I can only press CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to reset Xserver.
