When I shutdown from gnome-panel.. ubuntu only log off.
Then if i suthdown in gdm, it works fine.

For myself it appears that suspend works but hibernate gives the
"authentication failed" message as Matthew East notes. I agree with Jos
Dehaes that any exposed feature ought to work. I'm not sure I'd call it
a blocker but I do think this is a major bug. The devs are welcome to
disagree with me

There are two ways of doing suspend to ram (seemingly). One way
(standby) is fairly common but doesn't save much power. The other way
(ram) is not so common but saves more power. By default dapper defaults
to ram.
See line 8 of /etc/default/acpi-support for further details.

I've just tried an audio-cd. When i insert it, it is recognized right
and i can play audio. When i remove the cd and enter the game dvd again,
the dvd is now detected properly!
My other cd-rom drive works fine by the way and is mounted on inserting.

Yes, Rythmbox has the same issue. You can try for yourself: create a
playlist with two consecutive tracks of an opera (as wav files). You

Using gaim 1.5 and 2 beta, i have a problem where the more tabs are open
the more cpu useage goes up. half a dozen tabs its negligable, but at
12-18 tabs resizing the chat window or simply talking results in 100%

I can confirm this. I also had this problem in Breezy. The solution was
to put sample files in a folder (I forget what it's called) in your home
directory.
I think there should be default templates installed based on apps
installed by default, like OOo apps, text documents, pictures, etc.

Hi Sebastian-
I'm using the latest Nvidia (proprietary) driver and I'm also using XGL.
I don't appear to have Xine installed, but I get the same artifacts with
Kaffeine and Kaboodle. Strangely, Mplayer doesn't give the same
problems - the sound is out of sync.

Upon connection of my mp3 player ubuntu produces an icon in
Places>Computer corresponding to the player. Clicking this icon causes
nothing to happen. Attempts to mount using pmount -t vfat /dev/sda1
/media/sda1 also fails despite /dev/sda1 existing.

1) The "lock screen" item should not be treated differently than
suspend/hibernate. They are all options that are a) potentially
timer-controlled and automatic and b) have no bearing on the current gnome

Another workaround is to change "smbfs" mounts in /etc/fstab to "cifs".
