I'm not able reproduce this, just successfully connected to a vnc4server
vncserver running in 10.04 using vinagre 2.30.3-1ubuntu2.
That doesn't mean its not a bug, though.

A few things things.
a.) Thanks for taking the time to open the bug and find a fix!
b.) the vinagre package
I've tried without the patch. It crash with a remote connection to an
Ubuntu PC but do nothing with a MacBook Pro (no connection, no crash,
just a black screen).
