I cannot confirm this because I cannot upgrade to Edgy again (due to
having Edgy installed), but today's update to gdm added a server to the
list like it was supposed to all along. The cause of this bug was no
server was added/listed.
My workaround entailed adding a server.

Hello,
Please note that I selected to use the default gdm.conf-custom file when
dpkg-reconfigure was started during dist-upgrade. The current conf files
are not problematic, which probably means they are not useful. However,
I keep backups which means that I do have my gdm conf files from
*before*
