I've just whittled down a logged in session so that the only X clients
were just gnome-session, an xterm and gnome-panel (which stubbornly
respawns if I try to kill it). Despite having so few clients, the output
of
xrestop -b -m 1 | grep '' | wc -l
stayed above 200.
I'm now running gnome-session
I get this too, but I don't think the screensaver is the culprit in this
case.
