As a crazymathematician, I have about 200G of music in FLAC. I think it is the
best lossless codec so far. You want to use lossless codecs if you are a fan
of, say, classical music.
As a matter of fact, I have more gstreamer stuff installed:
dpkg-query -l gstreamer* | grep
Well I had a hard time finding any FLAC files, let alone free ones, but
I eventually found one to download. I'm listening to Rhythmbox playing
it now on Karmic 9.10. It sounds great.
Make sure you have all of the following installed:
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
gstreamer0.10
