Thanks, madbiologist! As a crazymathematician, I have about 200G of music in FLAC. I think it is the best lossless codec so far. You want to use lossless codecs if you are a fan of, say, classical music.
As a matter of fact, I have more gstreamer stuff installed: dpkg-query -l gstreamer* | grep ^ii ii gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.25-2ubuntu1 GStreamer plugin for ALSA ii gstreamer0.10-doc 0.10.25-2 GStreamer core documentation and manuals ii gstreamer0.10-esd 0.10.16-1ubuntu3 GStreamer plugin for ESD ii gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.9-1 FFmpeg plugin for GStreamer ii gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs 0.10.25-2ubuntu1 GStreamer plugin for GnomeVFS ii gstreamer0.10-nice 0.0.9-2 ICE library (GStreamer plugin) ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad 0.10.14-4ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "bad" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-dbg 0.10.14-4ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "bad" set (debug ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-doc 0.10.14-4ubuntu1 GStreamer documentation for plugins from the ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse 0.10.13-0ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "bad" set (Multiv ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse-dbg 0.10.13-0ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "bad" set (Multiv ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.25-2ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "base" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-apps 0.10.25-2ubuntu1 GStreamer helper programs from the "base" se ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-dbg 0.10.25-2ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "base" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-doc 0.10.25-2ubuntu1 GStreamer documentation for plugins from the ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.16-1ubuntu3 GStreamer plugins from the "good" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-dbg 0.10.16-1ubuntu3 GStreamer plugins from the "good" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-doc 0.10.16-1ubuntu3 GStreamer documentation for plugins from the ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.12-1 GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-dbg 0.10.12-1 GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" set (debug ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-doc 0.10.12-1 GStreamer documentation for plugins from the ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse 0.10.12-0ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" set (Multi ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse-dbg 0.10.12-0ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" set (Multi ii gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio 0.10.16-1ubuntu3 GStreamer plugin for PulseAudio ii gstreamer0.10-sdl 0.10.14-4ubuntu1 GStreamer plugin for SDL output ii gstreamer0.10-tools 0.10.25-2 Tools for use with GStreamer ii gstreamer0.10-x 0.10.25-2ubuntu1 GStreamer plugins for X11 and Pango Well, still rhythmbox does not play flac. Actually, i seems to not play anything for me. I was able to get audacious2 to work, so, my bug report is irrelevant then. The problem resides in the bloody pulseaudio that I had to remove. Now I am running into all sorts or problems, like rhythmbox does not work, some applets do not work etc I will close this bug now. Thanks anyway! ** Changed in: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- gstreamer cannot handle flac after upgrade to 9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/481147 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gstreamer0.10 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
