It is an attempt to find a colour which (a) looks like a base colour for
the Ubuntu Lagoon image, which is what pops up over that, and (b) looks
good as a backing for the new Gnome splash. If you have a suggestion,
make it and I will look at it. Otherwise, please mark this bug as rejected.

Black is too much of a jump. You can play with this using your desktop
image setting dialog, switching between the plain colour image and the
Ubuntu Lagoon image. So either leave it as it is, or try #461503 and see
if that makes folks happier. Don't spend more than 5 minutes on it though.

Hello,
I suggested to use either the black of usplash background, the beige of
gdm Human theme background or the brown of the ubuntu default
background. As the usplash is less variable theme in ubuntu, using black
would be the right solution.
I already suggest to use beige #D9BB7A.
