I can confirm the behaviour that Phil describe in comment #13.
I do not really understand if its a Nautilus bug or a gphoto bug. If this is a
gphoto bug, does anyone know if it as ever been submitted? Because in my
opinion, the problem is still there and the deletion of the .thumbnails/normal

As per gphoto, it's likely that it's still using libgnomeui and is
generating thumbs with the wrong orientation, and nautilus doesn't
regenerate them because the mtime is still right. That's a gphoto bug.

What you said was the first thing that made sense here, Phil. And it's
silly that we haven't realized it until now. If you upgraded from an
older libgnomeui to the current Nautilus+libgnome-desktop thumbnailing
code, then the old thumbnails will likely have been generated in the
"native" format, wh
Actually, I think something funny is still going on here.
I found that when I import photos from my camera (just copying via
nautilus+gphoto; jaunty with latest updates), the thumbnails are
incorrectly rotated. But if I clear .thumbnails/normal, the thumbnails
subsequently generated are correct. M
the code might have been buggy when those thumbnails have been written
and those are not updated when there is no change to the images, closing
the bug since that works now

Phil, thank you so much! That solves the problem for me too. I can't
understand why, because it was happening with photos imported since I
upgraded to Jaunty.
I still get the problem that when I set a rotated photo as a desktop
background, it shows up wrongly oriented. This happens even for a fres
Clearing the ~/.thumbnails/normal directory fixed the orientation for
me, no gconf changes needed.

not sure what could be creating the issue for you, do you have a
specific thumbnailer in gconf-editor /desktop/gnome/thumbnailers for the
corresponding mimetype which would create the issue?

OK, so now it turns out (using current Jaunty) that the problem doesn't

anyone have any idea how I can fix this without taking the risk of
