This is now remembered per document. We think this is the best way to manage

This happens also on 10.04. The workaround is to install gedit-plugins
and enable the session saver plugin. With this plugin, language and auto
spell check settings will be retained after reopening for the current
document at least.

I'm experiencing this problem in Jaunty. So I downloaded the patch
found at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=84926&action=edit
and applied it to a fresh source download of gedit 2.28. Compiled and
installed and now the autocheck spelling is working for me. Also had to
set
gconftool-
As stated this bug doesn't address the issue I found. This one only
adresses if autospellcheck is remembered. Mine addressed that the wrong
English dictionary was used and as well as requesting a spellcheck the
user had to specifically select the dictionary to use for every gedit
sessions. Remember
