I was having segfaults in Nautilus at logout / shutdown / reboot (from
the Gnome-panel.)
I found this to be the problem:

Additional information:
it happens precisely when I logout from current X-session via the button in
GNOME-panel.
I did check with after a fresh boot absolutely no additional x-applications
started (by me).
It also happens (of course) when I logout from x-session, switch to virtual
terminal 1, l
I followed your proposal, but while system was up and running I could
not catch any segfaults. As said, I never observed Nautilus crashing.
I now checked the timestamps in /var/log/messages and found/concluded:
it happend when issuing 'reboot' using the graphical way in the GNOME
panel-applet (d
