sorry for being a newb but what can be done about this? i xdmcp to a 8.04
machine, and i prefer xfce4 but today this same message greeted me instead of
that mouse, and i couldn't do anything about it. should i restart something?

I can confirm that this is still happening in Ubuntu 8.10.
1) In the normal gdm login screen, I select the "Secure Remote Connection" and
then login to the local account.
2) Up pops a box saying "enter the name of the host you want to log in to". I
enter the remote hostname.
3) My session start
