the problem remains in Ubuntu 8.10
it may be a little different:
display is not dimmed (backlit intensity not changed) nor with external power,
or when on battery.
additional info:
Backlit intensity is controllable via hotkeys, but the animated bar has
different amount of steps than the elect
Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to
this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find
out what additional work should be done on this bug.

I just purchase my first dell (inspiron 1525 pre-installed w/ Ubuntu)
and I am also experiencing this behavior. However, I notice one
additional aspect of this glitch: I always keep the laptop plugged into
its power supply. If I adjust the screen intensity to a lower level of
intensity, it will

** Description changed:
- If "dim display when idle" is enabled, and the display's intensity is
manually (using Fn+keys)set to dimmed, AND computer is idle, then Ubuntu dims
it a litle bit more, but whhen computer is used again, it does not restore the
dimmed level, but instead increases bright
