GLib 2.18.2-0ubuntu2 on 8.10 has an issue with strict-aliasing, always
reporting the following:
warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing
rules
This does not occur with same code under 2.16.6-0ubuntu1 in 8.04.
Compile attached code as follows

Testing has shown Nautilus to be very inconsistent with operation.
Sometimes input will work in Chinese and sometimes no input will be
accepted at all. For instance swapping between gedit and nautilius can
sometimes make input work. Sometimes when swapping back and forth
between gedit and nautilu

That case is about "Help" in gnome-about-me, this is about "Close" in
link-monitor-applet. The "Close" button works in the following
