I have tried the new gnome-power-manager that comes with 10.10 and the
problem still exists - the screen does not dim when idle, despite it
being checked in the power management options screen.
I ran the same command as in the initial report (gnome-power-manager
--verbose 2>&1 | tee ~/g

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 x86 with kernel 2.6.32-24-generic on a Dell
Latitude D420.
Although the option "Dim display when idle" is ticked for when the
laptop is on battery power, the display does not dim. Obviously I expect
the display
