Beagle isn't the one changing the Places shortcut all on its own.

If you install beagled you have "opted in" to this behaviour. It takes
very intentional user action.

I am guessing the directory is perm 700 because it contains the beagled
socket which no one else is meant to connect to directly. Other than
file names, I don't see anything in the logs that I consider
"confidential". Closing here.

I do not agree that this is a Beagle bug because (by default) beagled runs as
your own user and indexes only your home directory. Running the indexer as
root on the entire file system seems to be a Very Bad Idea from a security
standpoint.
If the intended behaviour for most people is to search
