Confirmed in all cases it's just that the X11/Xmir apps can't detect the
session bus address of the login (which is on a different TTY BTW).
Forcing DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS solves the problem.

The GNOME Maps app is the most prominent app in Ubuntu's Software app.
It's the only app with a large wide-screen banner on the home page of
the Software app.
The Maps app currently doesn't work because the server it was using
stopped providing free map tiles. See bug 1602035
It's working perfectly for me now with OTA 12 with my bq E4.5 phone and
bq M10 tablet. All services like uNav, Here Maps and Google Maps are
working with GPS.

of gnome-settings-daemon (with the Compiz Unity-plugin turned off and
gnome-panel instead), but it seems similar enough.
