the exact same problem on a system that has undergone updates from etch-
feisty-gutsy-hardy-intrepid-jaunty. The last upgrade was hardy-intrepid
(without modifying or doing anything in intrepid before upgrading to

1) Gnome image apps, like gthumb, never open maximized so as to give the

My top and bottom link bars have disappeared since re-booting Jaunty
Ubuntu 9.4and I'm unable to access APPLICATIONS, ADMINISTRATION and all

Eric: all those steps should not be needed, and installing totem-xine is
not a good advice for most users as it will change the way all movie
files are played by Totem. Installing vlc is an option, but reinstalling
it should not be needed. Have you tried the workaround from the
description before?

I have the same bug on my Toshiba laptop running the 9.04 live CD.
When I adjust the volume knob on the side of the laptop, gnome-settings
goes into some funky state where it continually triggers notify-osd.
Even with only a minor volume adjustment, the volume will run away to
full maximum or full
All files are local. Just installed Ubuntu 9.04 x32 on another computer.
The same MP3 files I have trouble in the upgraded Ubuntu 9.04 x64 are
played OK. So it seems like it's not a rhythmbox issue.
Some new info on the troubled Ubuntu 9.04 x64 machine:
- Ogg files play OK (seekbar move OK and so

Yes, if you are browsing the RSS feeds (like the usual BBC toolbar feed
in FF) the screensaver never comes on. Mind you, you have to actually be
browsing them; the list of live feeds must be dropped down. Just mousing

I'm having similar problems. When I try to load photos from my camera
via F-Spot, it says they are being copied, but after it's "done," there
are no photos in the folder on my hard drive. If I drag and drop the
photos, I can get them onto my hard drive, but F-Spot is NOT working
like it did befor

First of all sorry for the late reply. Yeah, the testing partition where I used
to test jaunty from the beginning seems to works correctly! So.. don't know
what happens..

Just tried to attach photos to an email in FSpot (f-spot 0.5.0.3) under
Jaunty - on sending the email I get an error dialog from Mozilla
Thunderbird, which I attach an image of.
This feature of FSpot remains unusable...

Don't suppose you could tell us a few more details?
Does the 'garbage' disappear after a while? If so - how long?
And also - is this with all applications or just opera?
And finally - Do you have desktop effects enabled?
It would be great if you could add them to the description.

Still happening here with 9.04 and all the updates.
I can confirm that it only keeps me from running a new gnome-terminal
from the root account, users can. I can run other graphical shells like
konsole or xterm with no trouble.

Btw, one more short remark: it could be that this bug was related to bug
356510 but I'm currently using the workaround indicated there and, as
said above, the problem is fixed.

Well, it must be a metacity bug then (or whatever WM you are using).
Like I said, it isn't a gnome-desktop bug. gnome-desktop has nothing to
do with window-management.
