HOWEVER, any attempt to log off, or to change users by either the user

I am having the same issue ( two icons ) with Intrepid on my laptop. In
my case it is with a OpenSolaris CD.
According to mount, there is only one mounted item :

The Threaded View in Evolution does not work properly. It works for some
emails but not for others (see attached screenshot).
I did set the option "Fall back to threading messages by subject" in the
Mail Preferences but doesn't seem to help.
