After upgrading to Unstable-04Nov2007 the problem is gone: dvd playback
is fluid again.
I don't know exactly when the problem's been fixed (today it's the first
time I upgrade my Unstable installation since last August), but now it is fixed.

I installed Lenny-19Aug2007 but unfortunately the problem hasn't been
fixed: still slow DVD playback.
So I begun to upgrade single packages of the snapshot dated 14Aug2006:
1. x11-common from 1:7.0.23 to 1:7.1.0~1 ---> normal DVD playback
2. xserver-xorg-core from 1:1.0.2-9 to 1:1.1.1-1 ---> X serv
