According to an article[1] I tried using semaphores=1 and it seems to
have significantly reduced the freezing. I will test this workaround
some more.

I forgot to say that switching to vt1 and then to vt7 again (CTRL-SHIFT-F1
CTRL-SHIFT-F7) unfreezes it but it freezes again in about 20-30 seconds.

This happens occassionally in linux 2.6.38 but in 2.6.39 it became very
frequent.
All I have to do is play fullscreen flash or dosbox and it will freeze the

Here's 2 different workarounds:
1 - enable KMS in the kernel
This caused everything to be super slow
2 - delete or comment out /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
This essentially disabled KMS from the module

The problem is in the debian/rules file. The install:build section has a line:
rm -rf $(CURDIR)/debian/tmp/usr/lib/pkgconfig

The makefile doesn't put the compiz-text.pc into the proper directory for
pkgconfig which is /usr/lib/pkgconfig/.
The compiz-text.pc is generated though.
This is causing building problems in the compiz-fusion-plugins-extra pack
group plugin is still missing.
