I could certainly upload a new package with latest 6.12-branch git
snapshot.
That would surely solve the issue but the question is how many other
issues will be introduced by uploading the newest git snapshot.
We're talking about a stable branch, so this risk should be low.

turned on, I have determined that the X server crash is caused by a
particular Compiz plugin - the Window Decoration plugin (obviously,
