I can confirm that by applying the following two patches:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-ati/commit/?h=6.12-branch&id=45edca0e9d7b833b9de3037e94f293122c922e42
to the Debian source package xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.4-2 and
compiling it removes the problem filed in this bug report.
Are there plans to backport these patches into Debian version of the
Radeon driver package?
