I'll attach the original XF86Config-4 file from the initial installation and
the revised file I'm now using. When I get some time ( probably later today )
I'll try reverting to the old , as you suggest, just to see if I get the small
screen size.

Thanks for the inquiry. I modified XF86Config-4 by using some help I got from
Linux-on-laptops.com. I saved a copy of the original file generated by the
installer, if you'd like to see it. The problem actually occurred with a Sarge
installation.
I'm running Sarge exclusively
Package: XFree86 Version 4.3.0.1
Kernel: Linux version 2.4.27-2-386
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.8-16.0508-2 i686 [ELF]
Video Hardware: Trident CyberBlade i7 AGP (8420-64)
Display: 14.1" 1024x768 XGA TFT
Problem: Sarge installation sets the HP N3270 laptop display size to
800x600 (default?)
