When starting X, Xorg.0.log reports:
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/fonts/libfreetype.so
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/fonts/libfreetype.so: undefined symbol:

I asked on #xorg-devel and got this helpful information:
12:25 < kolibrie> I am wondering if anyone can give me insights into this
error:

Well, I inadvertently started X within a screen session, and was
amazed to find some nice error messages when I reattached my screen.
Here is the output:
vs2:/home/kolibrie# startx
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.4808
X: warning; process set to priority -1 instead of reques
I tried switching to the vga driver, and discovered that X did not
start, and spit me back out at the command-line. I think that this
blank screen bug is manifested only when X configuration is successful
and X tries to start. If there is a fatal error, the bug is not
triggered.

Version: 1:1.0.2-8
Followup-For: Bug #365654
After upgrading, startx switches the display to graphical mode, it
flashes black a few times, and then hangs. The keyboard is also dead.
Pressing num-lock does nothing, nor does Ctrl-Alt-F1.
