As libXfont seemed to be the cause of the error, and I managed to get a new install working just fine, I wondered if perhaps there was an old version of libXfont not cleaned up in my upgrade.
To my surprise I found that I had installed the CVS version when tinkering with cairo, perhaps two years ago. Uninstalling the second copy of libXfont allowed X to start up normally. Why I never encountered an error before this, I am not sure. This bug can probably be closed now. -kolibrie -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
